Remote CCTV viewing means being able to see your own cameras — live and recorded — from wherever you are, using a phone, tablet or computer. Every CCTV system Titan installs across Northern Ireland is set up with remote viewing as standard, using the camera manufacturer's own app. There is no separate monthly monitoring subscription and no third party watching your cameras. You retain full control of your own footage.

It is worth being clear about terminology. "Remote monitoring" is sometimes used to describe a staffed alarm-receiving centre where operators watch feeds on your behalf. That is not what Titan provides. What we set up is remote viewing and alerting — you and the people you authorise can view the cameras and receive notifications directly. This is the right fit for the overwhelming majority of homes, farms and businesses.

Live viewing and playback

Through the Hik-Connect (Hikvision) or DMSS (Dahua) app, you can watch any camera live, switch between multiple cameras, and scroll back through recorded footage stored on your NVR or DVR. Playback works the same way remotely as it does on-site — you can jump to a specific time, review an event, and export a clip to share with police or insurers if needed. The recording itself stays on the recorder at your property, so your retention period is not limited by a cloud plan.

Smart alerts and notifications

On systems with AI-capable cameras, push notifications can be filtered so you are only alerted when a person or vehicle is detected, rather than every time the wind moves a tree or a bird crosses the view. This is the difference between a system that is genuinely useful and one whose notifications you switch off within a week. Alert rules — line crossing, intrusion zones, time-of-day schedules — are configured on the camera during installation. See our 4K & AI CCTV page for more on smart detection.

Multiple users and access control

You can share access with family members, business partners or staff, each with their own login. For businesses this means a manager can review footage without having the owner's credentials. Access can be revoked at any time. We set up the initial users at handover and show you how to add or remove people yourself.

Connectivity: the part that actually matters

Remote viewing only works if the site has a reliable internet connection. On urban and suburban properties with fixed broadband this is straightforward. On rural sites, farms and remote premises — where a large share of our work is — broadband is often the limiting factor. This is why we treat connectivity as part of the CCTV design rather than an afterthought:

  • 4G connectivity for sites with no fixed broadband, using industrial routers with external antennas. See 4G & managed connectivity for CCTV.
  • Point-to-point wireless links to bring remote outbuildings onto the same recorder, covered on our business Wi-Fi and point-to-point page.
  • Correct substream configuration so live remote viewing stays responsive on a rural mobile signal while the NVR still records at full quality locally.

Security of your remote access

Remote access to cameras has to be set up correctly or it becomes a weakness. We configure systems using the manufacturer's encrypted P2P connection rather than opening unnecessary ports on your router, change default passwords, and enable the manufacturer's account security features. We do not leave systems on factory default credentials — that is one of the most common problems we find when taking over CCTV systems installed by others. If you have concerns about an existing system, our CCTV repairs and maintenance service includes security reviews.

Who uses remote viewing

In practice, remote viewing is valuable to almost everyone we install for: farmers checking calving and lambing sheds through the night without leaving the house, business owners reviewing their premises out of hours, homeowners checking on a property while away, and property managers overseeing multiple sites from one app. It is included as standard rather than sold as an add-on.

Add Remote Viewing to Your System

Included as standard on every Titan installation. Already have a system? We can often add or fix remote access.
